GIUSEPPE “JOE” BALSAMO
JGiuseppe “Joe” Balsamo Joe Balsamo (Schaffhausen, November 27th 1966) is a Soccer coach and President of the Football organization F.A.Euro.
PLAYER
Born in Switzerland, but raised in Palermo, Joe embarks upon his soccer career, playing in the youth division of A.S.Carini, in 1977, under Coach Zdenek Zeman (ex- Lazio and Roma).Before his 14th birthday, Joe has already won numerous prestigious tournaments, including the Alfa Romeo International Tournament (in Zurich), Torneo della Montagna (Modena), and many others throughout Europe. At just 16, Joe is promoted to the A,S;Carini First Team, becoming the youngest player ever to have been summoned to this side’s top ranks. Two years later, Joe moves to the States with his family, where he continues to play professionally, with the San Diego Sockers. Joe remains only four months in the United States, before returning to Italy to play for Giovanni Seghedoni, at that time trainer of F.C.Viglionese in C-2. Joe goes on to win the C-2 Championship with F.C-Viglionese, and to see them promoted into C-1. This C-1 promotion represents Joe’s final notch on the belt in Italy, before returning definitively to the U.S.A., and beginning a new life.
COACH
Joe began his coaching venture at only 30 years old, having been forced into an early retirement due to a knee injury. In a few short years, he has become one of the most illustrious trainers in the country. In 1999, he made 2nd place with his team, Brooklyn Italians Under-16s, in the USA International Cup, a prestigious U.S. youth tournament. That same year, Joe’s squad were winners of the C.J.S.L. League, East division championship, and took first place in the Oneonta International Tournament. In 2000, Joe won the New York State Cup; another 2nd place in the USA International Cup Tournament; 3rd place in the Enzo Ferrari Tournament in Modena, Italy; and finally, won League 2 for two years running. 2002 is the Golden Year for Joe. In fact, he comes in first at the Enzo Ferrari Tournament, the first time an American team wins such a prestigious European competition. Joe’s Brooklyn Italians beat the best: Primavera di Modena, Juventus, Fiorentina and Fenerbache. Following this success, Joe meets Chuck Jacob, President of the Brooklyn Knights, and becomes a member of the organization of this team. The first year, he is entrusted with the Brooklyn Knights Under-11s, his first experience coaching such young players. Joe takes them on to win the New York State Cup, which wins him his ticket to Paris to represent the United States’ National Squad (Brooklyn Knights) in the Danone Cup. Out of 42 teams participating, Joe’s reaches 18th position. In 2004, Joe once more wins the C.J.S.L. with the Brooklyn Knights, and achieves an excellent 2nd place in the Enzo Ferrari Tournament. In 2006, Joe takes over as Coach to the Brooklyn Knights PDL (First Team). In 2007, they win the East Conference Championship, qualifying for the national finals; losing on penalties in the semi-final. In the same year, they qualify in the U.S. Open Cup, for the first time in the Club’s history. Joe wins the PDL in 2006. 2007 and 2008. Today, he is still Coach at Brooklyn Knights PDL.
PRESIDENT OF F.A. EURO
Founded in 2000 by Joe Balsamo and Giandomenico Costi , F.A. Euro is a footballing organization, focused on the nurturing of young players. The staff of F.A. Euro include former International players such as Angelo Orlando and Lodovico Costacurta, the brother of Billy Costacurta, presently 2nd Coach to Primavera of A.C. Milan. F.A. Euro has its own Football Ground, Club and Agency; and provides Clinics and Soccer Tours.
