Betty Vignotto

Betty Vignotto Elisabetta Vignotto (San Donà di Piave, January 13th 1954) is a Sports Manager and former Women’s Soccer player (forward). Currently President of AC Reggiana Femminile.

LIFE AND CAREER

Betty Vignotto can be considered one of the pioneers of Women’s Soccer in Italy. With the Milan team, Gomma Gomma, she won the 1970 F.F.I.G.C.F. Championship (the first ever Women’s Championship was held in 1968); and a year later, with Real Juventus di Torino, the F.I.C.F. Championship. Following the unification of these two Sporting Bodies, she went on to win a further four championships.

In her long sporting career, she played for Padova , Bologna, Valdobbiadene, Gorgonzola, Piacenza, Roma, once again for Padova, and finally for Reggio Emilia. Many of these teams no longer exist; but thanks to her efforts, Reggiana gained stature as a Club. This team, originally called “Zambelli Reggiana” (named after the family of industrialists who hosted them), signed up Vignotto in the final years of her career as a player; and in 1991 invited her to manage them. When the Founder passed away, Betty Vignotto became President of the Club (which by now was called AC Reggiana Femminile), and that is where we find her to date. All told, Betty Vignotto , as a player, won 6 Club Trophies and 4 Italian Cups, and was five times winner of highest goal-scorer ; indeed, during the 1970 Championships, she scored an unrivalled (and as yet unmatched) 56 goals!

In Nazionale dal 1970 al 1989, la Vignotto vanta 107 goal (in 109 partite disputate), che costituiscono il record in maglia azzurra e, fino al 1999 (anno in cui fu superata dalla statunitense Mia Hamm), anche il primato assoluto a livello di rappresentative nazionali. Prese parte anche a quattro campionati d Europa (i primi tre non ufficiali sebbene anch essi organizzati dall UEFA). Betty Vignotto è stata membro del consiglio direttivo della Divisione calcio femminile della FIGC per due mandati.
